Financial Accountant
*** This position is 100% onsite at corporate HQ in Redwood City, CA during the first 30 - 90 days, thereafter, hybrid work schedule might be available ***
Job Summary:
Financial accountant performs a variety of duties such as maintaining the general ledger, reconciling accounts, maintaining and processing the credit union's fixed asset, assisting with audits and budgeting processes.
This includes compiling the appropriate journal vouchers to post activity, research discrepancies and make appropriate adjustments.
This person will reconcile all General Ledger accounts; prepare month-end entries, gather data for financial reporting, and file various monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the appropriate agencies.

Perform account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and intercompany general ledger accounts.
Assist in providing schedules and commentary for operational management account results and variances.
Support monthly, quarterly, mid-year, and year-end financial closes, including assigned journal entries, balance-sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of operational management accounts.
Process Investments and Fixed Assets and reconcile corresponding General Ledger accounts.
Gather data for NCUA - Call Report, prepare and submit report quarterly.
Gather data for FHLB – Blanket Lien Collateral Certificate, prepare and submit report quarterly.
Complete various annual filings such as tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies including property taxes, report of Organization NC99001, Economic Census and others as assigned.
Assist with gathering necessary account information and documents to perform DFPI and NCUA annual audits.
Assist with monthly financial close workbook preparation.
Establish, maintain and update procedures for applicable functions.
Communicate any backlog or training issues to the manager.
Provide excellent service to vendors, members and co-employees.
Be a part of various initiatives spanning multiple departments.
Be knowledgeable of all rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they pertain to the job responsibilities by maintaining and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Completing special projects as requested by management using financial models, Data Warehouse, or other available applications.
Assist with accounting applications and systems testing and upgrade.
Perform other duties such as ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as needed.
Complete required BSA & OFAC training annually.
Understand and adhere to BSA and OFAC policy and procedures.
Education/Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field 3+ years equivalent directly related work experience.
Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
Knowledge of accounting principles.
Proficiency with Excel or equivalent spreadsheet software.
Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures.
Excellent written communication skills.
Strong technical abilities to learn core banking systems, Prologue, or other systems/software as needed.
Use of Data Warehouse for queries.
Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
This position is a strong support position to senior management of the organization who rely on the content and the accuracy of reports produced to make decisions.
This person must work well both independently and as a team and maintain good cooperative interaction with middle and senior management, and members of other departments.
