To develop a dynamic, integrated view of biological systems in health and disease, the Chan Zuckerberg Institute for Advanced Biological Imaging (CZ Imaging Institute) aims to push forward the development and application of new imaging technologies over the next 10 to 15 years.
CZ Imaging Institute researchers will collaboratively develop breakthrough biological imaging systems centered around grand challenges that push the boundaries of what we can see and measure to obtain deep insights into the architecture of complex biological systems at the molecular level.
As an extension of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's Imaging program, the CZ Imaging Institute (https://czii.
org/) will create breakthrough technologies — hardware, software, biological probes, data, and platforms — that will be made available to the scientific community and adopted worldwide through a combination of direct access to the Institute, open sharing of advances, and commercial partnerships.
The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our Finance team in a senior management role reporting to the CZII Acting Executive Director & COO.
The Controller will be responsible for accounting, internal and external reporting, systems, internal controls, and financial policies and procedures.
The Controller will also be involved in budgeting, FP&A, and oversee the purchasing function.
The CZ Imaging Institute is part of the CZ Biohub Network and the Controller will tightly interact with the CZ Biohub Network Finance and Accounting teams.
What You'll Do Accounting Proper cutoffs and accruals Journal entries Account reconciliations Budget vs actuals comparison and analysis Revenue Recognition Accounts Receivable Fixed Assets Maintain rock-solid financial information that is accurate and insightful Close monthly books in a timely manner and propose quality financial GAAP reports including: Support Workers Compensation Audit together with the CZ Biohub Network Finance team Close coordination with the CZ Biohub Network CFO and Network Accounting team in the execution of accounting and financial protocols, strategy and timelines Internal Controls and Systems Design, implement and oversee internal controls consistent with CZ Biohub Network-imposed controls Maintain SOX-like processes and controls Maintain local NetSuite ERP system Maintain local Concur Expense system Disbursements Supervise accounts payable function to ensure timely and accurate vendor payments Oversee payroll function to ensure timely and accurate compensation of employees Support annual 1096 filing and distribution of 1099's and W-2's together with the CZ Biohub Network Finance team Other Oversee Purchasing function Oversee Payroll function Review significant company transactions and provide financial expertise to other departments as necessary Responsible for Quarterly Filings of Sales and Use Tax, Annual Environmental Tax, and Annual Property Tax Filing(s) Maintain Welfare Exemption Status for Property Tax Assist in annual budgeting process by providing historical information and subjective input Effectively develop, train, and manage additional staff as required Participate as a member of Operations Management team Perform other related ad-hoc projects as required What You'll Bring Essential - Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting/ finance experience Minimum of 3 years of experience in a biotechnology environment or equivalent, including management of an accounting team Deep knowledge of GAAP accounting - exposure to non-profit accounting a plus Excellent analytical skills Proficient in MS Office, with very strong Excel skills Familiar with ERP systems for mid-size companies Hands-on self-starter that can thrive in a deadline-driven environment Strong leadership, collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills Ability to navigate complex or sensitive issues successfully, particularly when there are conflicting objectives or multiple parties involved Ability to problem-solve and also problem-avoid Perceptive at converting business objectives or transaction structures into optimum financial results and accounting treatment Impeccable ethics and integrity Credible representative of the Finance team and CZII Significant growth potential that could allow ascension within Finance or elsewhere in the Biohub Network.

Compensation $180,000 - $200,000 New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time.
To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate's skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity.
