The Department of Surgery within the School of Medicine at Stanford University is actively seeking an Accountant 1 to engage in a variety of moderately complex accounting tasks, including account monitoring, documentation, reconciliations, revenue reporting, and ledger management.

Duties include: Ensuring Financial Integrity and Compliance: Vigilantly review, process, gather, and compile accounting transactions and documents, guaranteeing completeness, accuracy, and adherence to regulations.
Your analytical skills will support the creation of analyses that inform significant decisions.
Problem-Solving and Analysis: Identify, prioritize, and adeptly resolve accounting issues, diving deep to uncover root causes and recognizing exceptions.
Your preliminary analyses will be critical in maintaining our financial health.
Data Management and Report Generation: Run, maintain, reconcile, review, combine, analyze, and validate financial data sets using multiple systems, aiding in the preparation of essential management information reports.
Correcting and Ensuring Accuracy: Proactively identify and resolve incorrect journal entries, data anomalies, and deviations from established procedures, maintaining the integrity of our financial records.
Research and Compliance: Collect data and conduct detailed research on transactions to ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulations, demonstrating your ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
Collaboration and Change Management: Participate in project teams, contributing to change management strategies through effective communication and collaboration, ensuring smooth transitions and adaptations within our financial operations.
Process Improvement: Recommend, assist, test, or implement process streamlining, system improvements, or workflow changes, playing a key role in enhancing our operational efficiency.
Documentation and Procedure Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of desktop procedures and process documentation, ensuring our practices are up-to-date and reflective of best practices.
Interdepartmental Liaison: Serve as a bridge to other departments, resolving accounting-related issues and fostering an environment of cooperation and mutual support.
Leadership and Mentorship: May also include training, coaching, and reviewing the work of other staff, leveraging your expertise to uplift our team's knowledge and performance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will possess a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, coupled with a strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and financial analysis techniques.
Demonstrated proficiency in financial software applications, along with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, is required to effectively perform in this role.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Associate degree plus two years of applicable experience, or combination of education and relevant work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED): Proficiency in basic business applications, such as Microsoft Office; user knowledge of Excel.
Basic knowledge of accounting systems and the internet; computer literacy.
Understanding of and ability to apply accounting skills and concepts.
Ability to draft professional e-mails, memos, business letters, and reports, and to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
Ability to learn project management skills and to participate as part of a project team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
Rarely stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders and use a telephone.

Stanford University has five regional pay structures.
The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $64,000 to $97,000 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
