GENERAL DESCRIPTION:* The *Financial Empowerment Coordinator *performs a wide variety of consumer lending and administrative functions.
Under limited supervision, the Credit Specialist will be responsible for efficiently performing all tasks involved in the daily operation of the DriveForward Vehicle and Lending Circles Loan Programs, and referring other financial services to our participants.
The Credit Specialist will be operating out of both of our San Mateo and San Jose office locations, depending upon workload and staffing needs.
In addition, working some evenings and Saturdays to accommodate participant work hours, to lead financial workshops and to participate in community events will be required.
This is a professional position which interfaces with the public and program partners, such as financial institutions, government agencies, funders and other community based non-profit organizations.

*REPORTS TO*: Financial Empowerment Supervisor
*DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*:
1.
Work with participants to assess their qualification for all Financial Empowerment Programs, including the DriveForward Vehicle and Lending Circles Loan Programs.
2.
Process loan inquiries and applications through all phases, from initial information intake to submission for an approval/denial decision.
3.
Deliver financial education workshops three to four times per month.
4.
Meet one-on-one with participants to accept and review loan application documents, develop a detailed income/expense budget, and review their credit report history.
5.
Coordinate, attend, and present applications to Loan Committees and Loan Officers.
6.
Facilitate loan closings at any of our local financial institution partner branch locations.
7.
Assist in the attainment of all Financial Empowerment Program monthly and annual goals, including participant referrals to all Financial Empowerment programs.
8.
Maintain all program databases through the accurate and timely input of data.
9.
Some evening and Saturday support will be required each month.
10.
Flexibility to work at both the San Mateo and San Jose office locations.
11.
Adhere to all Peninsula Family Service policies and procedures and ensure they are applied consistently among staff and participants.
12.
Must respect the confidentiality of all participants.
13.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:*QUALIFICATIONS*:
1.
College degree preferred, but not required.
2.
2 years of experience in the banking or financial services field.
3.
Ability to deliver effective financial workshops with strong instructional skills.
4.
Highly self-motivated and self-directed, and must demonstrate non-judgmental professional decision-making.
5.
Strong organizational skills with critical attention to detail.
Must be able to work independently in an environment of constant change, interruptions and high volume
6.
Effective oral and written communication skills required, including public speaking.
7.
Effective computer skills - fluent with the Microsoft Suite of software programs.
8.
Reliable transportation to commute to various meeting locations throughout San Mateo County and Santa Clara County (applicable mileage reimbursable).
9.
Must exhibit good judgment, dependability, flexibility and accuracy.
10.
Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.
Preferred:
Prior experience working with low-to-moderate income families and diverse populations facing financial barriers.
