The Applied Privacy Tech team leads data minimization efforts for data we use at Meta.
We set company-wide standards and guidelines on how to minimize data across use cases and throughout the data life cycle.
Our team’s expertise and guidance is critical to unblocking major privacy decisions and product launches with huge business value implications, creating a balance between privacy and signal recovery.
We also develop privacy enhancing technologies that enable data minimization using state of the art techniques for anonymization, de-identification and encryption.
Software Engineer (Technical Leadership) - Privacy Tech Responsibilities:
This role has large scope, dealing with problems across the privacy org and across products, helping set guidance, and maintain a privacy bar that impacts products and revenues.
The TL would work with a number of engineers in our team of 25 SWEs but more importantly work across privacy with PMs, Legal, Policy and other TLs across privacy and products helping shape the company’s strategy and long term position in key privacy areas.
You would help set new technical directions for various teams both within and outside privacy and help unblock hard decisions and escalations that require considering both technical and non-technical trade-offs.
The role of data minimization in addressing key privacy and regulatory problems in the company has been constantly growing in the company.
Our work touches all products, impacts major revenue streams and helps meet regulatory requirements using strong technical measure.
Hence, there is significant growth opportunity for an individual in this role to work with large number of teams and people in various functions and have high visibility.
The scope of the work will grow with the IC as there is no shortage of problems to solve in this space.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Advanced qualifications in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent
Experience developing systems with multi-function/multi-disciplinary threads
Experience communicating across multiple teams
Experience working cross-disciplinary, mentor team members and best practices
8+ years of industry experience in the software engineering domain
Proficiency in building and designing software systems
Vast experience communicating and working across functions to drive solutions
Experience in driving large cross-functional/industry-wide engineering efforts
Preferred Qualifications:
Privacy domain expertise.
IC/PM skills
4+ years of experience in research or R&D in the Security or Privacy domain
2+ years of experience in privacy or security engineering
4+ years of experience as technical lead for a project of 4 or more individuals
Experience working with in across teams and functions and ambiguous domains
Experience with Ads/Monetization technology and ecosystem
Experience in Cryptography, Differential Privacy or related technologies
Familiarity with the privacy regulation landscape
