*About us* Founded in 1935, the San Mateo County Historical Association (SMCHA) operates three historical sites: the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City, the Woodside Store in Woodside and the Sanchez Adobe in Pacifica.
It also runs school programs at the Folger Stable in Woodside.
The mission of the SMCHA is to inspire wonder and discovery through education about the cultural and natural resources of San Mateo County.
The SMCHA has been accredited through the American Alliance of Museums since 1972.
It is a 501(c)(3).
*Description:* Under the supervision of the Curator and Deputy Director, the Associate Curator will help manage the three-dimensional collection of the San Mateo County Historical Association.
In cooperation with staff, outside exhibit professionals and community members, the Associate Curator will develop and install exhibits pertaining to San Mateo County history.
The Associate Curator will work with staff and volunteers to meet the curatorial goals of the organization’s strategic plan.
*Qualifications:* Education and Experience: * Advanced degree in museum studies, history or archaeology with two years of experience in a museum curatorial department or equivalent experience.
* Experience designing and installing exhibits.
* Familiarity with the handling of a variety of materials from textiles to horse-drawn vehicles is especially valuable.
* General knowledge of and/or interest in history of California and San Mateo County preferred.
Traits, Skills and Abilities: * Knowledge of collections management principles, practices, and procedures.
* Able to work in a team environment and establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other staff, volunteers and the community members.
* Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to be flexible while working in a busy work environment.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
* Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
* Knowledgeable about PastPerfect.
* Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural community.
*Working Conditions:* * Requires time working at a computer.
* Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, crouch, climb ladders and lift up to 40 pounds to retrieve and store artifacts.
* Will need a driver's license and access to a car to move between Historical Association sites.
Status: Full-time.
Normal work schedule of Monday-Friday.
Some weekend, evening or holiday hours might be required.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $25.
00 - $31.
