Stanford Law School’s Robert Crown Law Library seeks to hire a full-time Acquisitions Information Specialist to join our team.
This position supports the acquisitions and metadata needs of the law library.
Under the supervision of the Head of Acquisitions, the position is responsible for receiving and checking in various library materials, sorting daily law library mail, and working on data in our library system.
CORE DUTIES Collections Receives orders Receives library orders of all types including monographs, serials, and government documents.
Inspects titles for damages and verifies if the correct materials were received.
Reports claims and/or damaged materials to the appropriate staff.
Check-in materials Updates the record in the library system and adds barcode to materials.
Updates law library tracking spreadsheets.
Creates routing slips for priority/rush orders.
Inserts transfer flags when necessary.
Inspects serials materials and verifies items are ready for filing or shelving.
Sorts and distributes mail Receives and distributes mail and packages to intended recipients.
Sorts packages for receiving.
Scans invoices and uploads docs to appropriate drive.
Metadata Participate in library system data projects Assists in data clean up projects in library system.
Copy cataloging Performs backup copy cataloging of materials in all formats, as assigned.
Other Prepare materials for repair and binding.
Minimum Requirements Two-year college degree plus one or more years of experience in an academic library, or a combination of education and relevant experience Ability to apply judgment in choosing procedures and evaluating alternatives Ability to learn library operational skills Attention to detail and organizational skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, within a collegial environment Physical Requirements* Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand.
Rarely use a telephone, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), operate hand controls.
Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 70 pounds.
