The Lead Advocate/CSEC Coordinator is a position that requires an innovative, passionate yet pragmatic individual who will be responsible for providing crisis intervention and advocacy for two chronically underserved populations; children who are at risk of or are identified survivors of sexual exploitation and people who are incarcerated.
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Lead Advocate will provide phone and in-person crisis response, program coordination, facilitate prevention and community education, such as CSEC 101 and Trauma Basics, and provide other services throughout San Mateo County.
The Lead Advocate will: provide crisis intervention, crisis counseling, advocacy and accompaniment.
oversee and coordinate staff advocates.
attend Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and Child Family Team (CFT) meetings for commercially sexually exploited children (CSEC)* collaborate with Social Workers to complete RTS action items resulting from MDT meetings.
coordinate with Child and Family Services (CFS) and other service providers to ensure CSEC contract objectives are met.
act as Lead Advocate for PREA follow-ups for incarcerated people (youth & adult).
maintain PREA follow-up list; assign and support staff advocates as needed.
develop and sustain relationships with San Mateo County PREA Coordinators.
ensure timely reporting to San Mateo County PREA Coordinators.
complete monthly reports including narrative description of the program activities, objectives and goals.
answer crisis line calls and meet with walk-in clients during business hours, as needed.
maintain a caseload of CSEC youth.
facilitate and attend weekly team meetings.
maintain a positive, professional working relationship with volunteers, clients, the general public, agency staff and community partners at all times.
perform administrative and operational tasks such as copying, stocking informational packets, and sharing office coverage (e.
g.
answering phones).
provide backup coverage for RTS' 24/7 crisis line.
adhere to all RTS personnel policies and protocols.
perform other agency responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent career experience required.
1-3 years of experience providing crisis intervention.
Passion for working with and empowering youth.
Strong, dynamic public speaking and training skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to listen, clarify, validate, and respectfully challenge.
Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks.
Excellent writing skills.
A creative thinker who is able to translate RTS’ mission, vision, and values to a wide array of audiences.
Self-motivated and a team player.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Must bring an eager and open-minded attitude, including the ability to problem solve as needed.
Must be comfortable working in a small team in a remote working environment.
Interest in and commitment to developing or expanding trauma-focused counseling and advocacy skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekend and evening hours to finish projects on time.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT), Google Drive and other commonly used applications.
Valid California driver’s license, insurance, and reliable access to transportation.
Must have the ability to establish rapport with diverse groups and individuals.
Familiarity with San Mateo County and community resources.
Salary/Benefits: $60,000 - $75,000, DOE.
Benefits package includes 20 days of PTO accrued/year, retirement plan, healthcare, vision and dental.
