Job Description The Senior Director, Interchange will be a member of the Visa US interchange team, leading the development of Visa’s merchant pricing strategies and other acceptance-side interchange initiatives.
This is a senior leadership role that will involve frequent collaboration with the pricing, merchant, finance and US executive teams on high impact initiatives and efforts.
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker that is able to take wholistic approach to Visa’s interchange strategies, leading a team that does the same.
The position will be based at Visa's offices in Foster City.
Essential Functions Lead Visa’s acceptance-side interchange strategy team, providing end-to-end management of the interchange function in the US Lead the development of Visa’s debit routing strategies with a focus on maximizing Visa acceptance across merchant segments and channels Lead the development of rigorous, fact-based, quantitative analysis to support recommendations Maintain close coordination with the pricing, legal, merchant sales and finance teams Ensure strategic and financial soundness and alignment for any recommendations Manage published interchange programs to ensure robust acceptance of and preference for Visa products with merchants Lead workstreams including, but not limited to, Visa’s response to the Fed Survey, annual performance tier interchange programs and the acquirer debit routing program Develop clear and concise executive level communications.
Communicate recommendations to the North American leadership team, other executive, functional, or regional staff and management in a clear, concise and impactful way.
Generate support for recommendations among business leaders across the organization In partnership with government engagement, legal and country management, encourage positive regulatory/ legal outcomes for Visa Manage ongoing interactions with the Global Interchange, compliance and Systems teams This is a hybrid position.
Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office.
Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications: • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.
g.
Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD Preferred Qualifications: • 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.
g.
Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience • 12+ years of work experience, ideally in payments, management consulting, corporate strategy, pricing, banking or finance • Relevant university degree in finance, economics or related disciplines • Experience in and/or significant exposure to the payments industry preferred, with knowledge of interchange a plus • Global or multinational business experience strongly preferred • Ability to independently lead and manage projects with multiple workstreams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of functional business problems • Ability to structure, manage, and coordinate complex cross-enterprise projects and processes with multiple stakeholders at both senior and junior levels • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor • Ability to quickly assess an opportunity’s potential, leveraging fact-based analyses and industry experience • Experience working with economic theories, scenario analysis and competitive assessments.
Knowledge of payments industry revenue drivers a plus • Personal presence and ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers, external business partners, and industry regulators • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and build credibility with functional and regional leaders within Visa.
