Financial Management Services (FMS), a department within Business Affairs, is responsible for creating an ecosystem which promotes innovative and sound financial administration policies and practices that balance controls, compliance, and customer service.
FMS is primarily responsible for financial policy oversight, quality assurance and financial services at Stanford University and its affiliated entities.
It also serves as a liaison to the hospitals and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC).

JOB PURPOSE: Under the general direction of the Payment Operations Manager the Accountant 1 is responsible for account disbursements such as payment processing and payment exception handing.
Perform moderately complex accounting activities and operations responsibilities, including monitoring accounts, preparing documentation, account reconciliations and reviews.
CORE DUTIES: Validate and process of USD and foreign currency wire payments, resolve issues related to outgoing and returned/rejected wire payments.
Perform daily reconciliation of AP payments and AP transactions by utilizing financial reports from multiple systems, bank reports and Oracle ERP.
Prioritize and resolve issues and recognize exceptions.
Perform analysis and recommend solutions in a timely manner.
Research and resolve unreconciled transactions related to AP disbursement transactions and accounts.
Performs system testing related to process improvements, system upgrades and enhancements and production support.
Contribute to development and maintenance of desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.
Prioritize, and resolve Payable issues; probe beyond stated situation; identify underlying issues; recognize exceptions; perform preliminary analysis; escalate broader issues.
Serve as a liaison between Wells Fargo/JPM Chase banks and internal departments; respond in a professional and timely manner on Accounts Payables issues.
Partner with the Financial Support Center to resolve inquiries and transactions within the defined SLA.
May train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed.
Contribute primarily through applying individual expertise.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Finance or relevant experience in Finance/Accounting desired, plus two years of applicable experience, or combination of education and relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in basic business applications, such as Microsoft Office; user knowledge of Excel.
Basic knowledge of accounting systems and the internet; computer literacy.
Understanding of and ability to apply accounting skills and concepts.
Ability to draft professional e-mails, memos, business letters, and reports, and to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
Ability to learn project management skills and to participate as part of a project team.
Certifications and Licenses: None PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
Rarely stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders and use a telephone.

The expected pay range for this position is $73,000 to $75,000 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
