The Independent Life Skills Advocate (ILSA) provides overall support to empower members to achieve their optimal independence.
The ILSA is responsible for providing direct support, positive direction, and assistance to members in accordance with ILS policies, procedures, and standards.
Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with daily activities of life skills by monitoring and implementing each individuals’ goals to maintain their relevant levels of self-advocacy, employment training, community integration, and self-care.
Participants objectives may include, but is not limited to teaching safety awareness, basic life skills such as shopping, banking, money management, access and use of community resources, and community survival skills.
The ISLA will document each participant progress in alignment with ISP goals and participating in community engagement activities.
Finally, the ILSA is responsible for facilitating all necessary actions to achieve success for ILS participants and realize the Mission and Vision of OSBI.
*Qualifications* • High school diploma or equivalent • 1+ years working with individuals with intellectual disability or a similar population requiring attention and compassionate care • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills • Ability to gain knowledge and implement practices that show attention to compassionate and safe supervision of individuals with ID as well as supporting individualized developmental growth goals and objectives • Appropriate certifications and clearance according to State Regulations o First Aid-CPR o Prevention and support training, if required o Positive Background/fingerprint checks • Good Driving Record; must pass DMV inquiry • Proof of Vaccination Status *Responsibilities* *Job Performance* • Implement goal-based curriculum in accordance with ISP goals and objectives based on individual needs of program participants.
• Transport program participants safely in a company vehicle to/from community-based activities.
• Report and document concise daily/monthly progress including completing daily logs, communication books, data sheets, etc.
• Model and demonstrate appropriate behavior management techniques with program participants.
*Customer Service* • Project a professional, knowledgeable, and capable image consistent with the One Step Beyond mission in public interactions.
• Consider the welfare, growth, and development of program participants as a top priority in all support and instructional activities.
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with participants and parents/guardians to address concerns, maintain positive relationships, and serve as an advocate and resource for those we serve.
*Leadership/Team Collaboration* • Encourage other ILS providers to work together to support the team in all direct service practices, including safety measures, curriculum delivery support, positive behavior support, and progress report accuracy.
• Handle difficult situations with a positive attitude by actively seeking problem resolution, creative solutions, and program and organizational enhancements to ensure individual and team performance as well as program effectiveness.
• Actively participate in staff and administrative meetings and in-service training/workshops and program special events • Collaborate with other ILS providers to encourage professional growth/development while supporting OSBI decisions, goals, and policies toward the goal of achieving, among all staff, effective collaborative interaction and mutual respect and support.
*Continuous Improvement* • Continuously evaluate program effectiveness and make suggestions to Program Manager for improvements and adjustments to program strategies.
• Seek opportunities to collaborate with and learn from colleagues to achieve a greater degree of service to the organization and its program members.
• Seek opportunities to share knowledge, experience, and best practices with colleagues to enhance organizational and program effectiveness.
• Demonstrate self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses and implement strategies to enhance strengths and improve weaknesses.
Job Type: Part-time Pay: $21.
