JOB The City of Menlo Park is currently seeking two (2) full-time Senior Program Assistants in the Library and Community Services Department.

Senior Program Assistants are highly skilled, hands-on professionals who provide essential support for a wide range of programs, operational and administrative duties.
Assigned areas of program responsibility may include one or more of the following: Recreation center programs and facilities Senior center programs including nutrition, health, social wellness and enrichment Children and youth programs Community events and observances Athletic programs like aquatics, gymnastics, fitness and movement Disability and inclusion services Technology and systems Grant tracking and reporting Community center operations This position requires excellent organizational skills such as planning and implementation of activities, interpretation of policies, procedures, and regulations; interpersonal and customer service skills; and creative problem-solving within the scope of responsibilities and established policies and procedures.
The City of Menlo Park currently has two (2) full-time Senior Program Assistant positions available immediately with focus areas that may include senior center programs including nutrition, health, social wellness and enrichment; recreation center programs and facilities; and/or community events and observances.
This recruitment will be used to establish the eligibility list for Senior Program Assistants.

Additional full-time openings are expected to become available in the near future to support additional programs including: children and youth programs, technology and systems, grant tracking and reporting, disability and inclusion services, athletic programs like aquatics, gymnastics, fitness and movement; afterschool programs and camps; and/or community center operations.

Respond effectively in crisis situations Provide administrative support, conduct research, perform special projects, develop reports, assemble materials, compose documents, retrieve and research information, update databases and compile statistics Possess strong teamwork skills to function effectively with a diverse and talented team of program assistants, supervisors and other support staff responsible for program implementation Plan, organize, schedule, and support assigned programs and projects to deliver high-quality community services to the public Ensure the provision of a safe and healthy work and play environment; participate in training staff in safety measures; observe program activities and compliance with safety requirements Communicate effectively.
Maintain excellent communication with program participants; explain and enforce policies and procedures; promote awareness of programs to prospective participants; celebrate success internally and in the community Supports supervisory and management personnel in both administrative and coordination efforts of programs and services in a fast-paced environment that is focused on responding to the changing service needs of a dynamic community This position may be assigned to provide effective technical and functional direction to staff, interns, and/or volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, library services or a related field, and two (2) years of community program experience related to the area of assignment.
If assigned to child care, equivalent to the completion of an associate degree or 60 semester units including 24 units of early childhood education coursework OR bachelor's degree or equivalent with 12 units of early childhood education or child development coursework; six (6) additional semester units of coursework in administration and supervision of child care and development programs; two (2) units of adult supervision coursework; and two (2) years of experience with young children as well as administrative support experience.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
For positions including oversight of a child care facility, possession of or ability to obtain a CTC-issued Child Development Site Supervisor Permit within one year of employment.
For certain positions in Community Services, ability to obtain American Red Cross First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate.
Must maintain and renew certification per the American Red Cross guidelines.
