Position Overview:
Prepares dietary information for use by kitchen personnel in preparation of foods for hospital patients.
Collects orders and information to understand patients' needs and monitor the quality and accuracy of food served to patients.
Supports the functionality of the department by providing clerical support including processing patient orders, tracking food service production tallies, and maintaining inventory.
Gains confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers through competent patient assessment, attentive monitoring and care, and effective communication.
Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: NUTRITIONAL SERVICES.
• Assists with patient data collection, and communication of patient needs to the department to ensure accurate preparation of patient meals.
• Assembles patient meal trays including cold food and snack items trays in accordance with patient requests and according to departmental standards.
• Coordinates the distribution, collection and processing of patient menus for dining and nutrition services.
• Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.
CLERICAL.
• Performs general clerical tasks, such as answering phones; updating patient appointments; or retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records (EHR).
• Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to patient, including all food intake and response to diet in medical and departmental records.
SAFETY.
• Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after each use.
• Inspects equipment accordingly for proper sanitation, reporting any insufficiencies to the supervisor.
COMPLIANCE.
• Maintains strictest confidence of all patient protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.
• Performs care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care.
• Retains certification and completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements.
EDUCATION: HS Diploma: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) TYPICAL EXPERIENCE: 1 year of recent relevant experience SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of various nutritional diet principles, views, and equipment used in the treatment of patients with varying conditions.
Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), electronic health records (EHR).
Interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).
Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
