*Job Description: 6th – 8th Math Teacher*
The Math Specialist’s role is to plan, organize, and teach an invigorating instructional program in Math for two small mixed-grade classes of neurodivergent learners.
The Math Specialist will work in tandem with the Classroom Behavioral Specialist and will be responsible for implementing the academic curriculum and working closely with administration, staff, specialists, and the students’ families to enable the optimal development of each student.
*Responsibilities:*
* Develop and teach Common Core-aligned daily lesson plans for two mix-grade classes that maximize learning potential for a diverse group of students.
* Provide dynamic and engaging instruction utilizing multiple methods of delivery.
* Prepare students adequately for all required assessments.
* Foster an inviting, exciting, innovative educational environment that is favorable to learning and personal growth.
* Engage in long- and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students.
* Collaborate daily with the classroom behaviorist to maintain classroom management procedures and foster social-emotional learning.
* Liaison effectively with parents, staff, specialists, and administration.
* Incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff and behavioral specialists.
* Maintain and enrich your expertise in the subject areas you will teach.
* Maintain a high level of organization and preparation for the classroom as well as for meetings, presentations, and events.
* Evaluate students’ progress and prepare at least quarterly individual student achievement reports for parents and administration.
* Represent the school at community events.
* Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the Head of School.
*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:*
* An ability and desire to engage the interest of students in grades 6 – 8.
* An ability to teach advanced concepts to accelerated students that goes beyond the scope of typical middle school math curriculum.
* An ability and desire to work with children who need additional support with self-regulation, executive functioning, and/or social-emotional learning.
* Experience with adverse classroom behaviors and willingness to learn and implement new strategies for addressing these behaviors as needed.
* An ability to utilize varied teaching methodologies to accommodate students’ unique learning styles.
* An ability to adapt teaching and classroom management to meet students’ specific needs in the moment and an eagerness to further develop this type of professional flexibility over time.
* An ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff, and administrators in a constructive and thoughtful manner.
* An ability to work effectively as a positive contributor to a healthy school culture.
* An ability to embrace the “start-up school” culture, to contribute to the development and adapt to changes in characteristics of students, programs, leadership, staff, and community.
* An ability to use data to drive instruction and willingness to learn how to work with various assessment systems.
* An ability to incorporate and implement behavior plans within the classroom.
* Expertise in the subjects you will teach.
* An ability to speak publicly in an effective manner in order to represent the school at community events.
*Qualifications:*
* Teaching Credential or bachelor's degree in education or related field.
* 3+ years' experience as a middle school math teacher.
* 1+ years' experience in a Special education setting and a passion to work with an underserved neurodivergent population.
