THE DEPARTMENT:
The Engineering and Transportation Department (ETD) is a new department resulting from a recent organizational assessment.
The study reviewed the Community Development and Transportation Department’s Planning, Engineering, and Transportation divisions and aimed to identify operational efficiencies, technology improvements, and a staffing structure better aligned with the workload in order to improve efficiencies.
As a result, the Engineering and Transportation functions will now operate as a stand-alone Department with a new Director and Assistant Director.
The first step in implementing the Study’s recommendations is to hire a Director and Assistant Director, one of whom will serve as the City Engineer.
The new Director, reporting to the Assistant City Manager responsible for land use and development functions, will have functional responsibility for land development, engineering, and transportation, including
the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which includes utilities, civic projects, and construction inspection.
