Associate Director for Performance Intelligence Schedule: Open to remote work.
The Office of University Communications and External Relations is seeking an Associate Director for Performance Intelligence to support tracking, measuring, and understanding a wide array of communications outcomes and reputational issues.
Working across all functional areas in University Communications and across campus communications units, the successful candidate will help promote a culture of data-driven decision making and contribute to the success of high-impact communications programs.
As Associate Director for Performance Intelligence you will: Collaborate with the Senior Director for Insights and Strategic Initiatives to define what to measure and turn it into actionable communication strategies.
Explore web, social network, email, and search data from multiple angles, determine meaning behind the data, and recommend communications strategies to apply the data.
Communicate, convey, and visualize informed conclusions and recommendations to “tell the story” behind the data and influence the organization’s communication strategies.
The ideal candidate will possess a strategic orientation; strong presentation skills; strong communications skills, both written and oral; a bias toward action; and a desire to continuously learn.
The Associate Director for Performance Intelligence reports to the Senior Director for Insights and Strategic Initiatives.
University Communications, part of the Office of External Relations, provides support and campus leadership in planning, coordination and implementation of strategic communications programs that support Stanford University and its mission.
University Communications is responsible for brand positioning and strategy; issues and reputation management; crisis communications; oversight of digital content and top-level web and social media platforms; media relations and news services; executive communications with all constituencies; major publications; and a campus video productions studio and video production group.
University Communications coordinates with communications professionals across the university, provides leadership to the Communications Working Group, and advises on communications policy with senior executive staff.
In this role you will: Deepen and enhance analytics capabilities in the areas of channel measurement (web, social networks, email, and search); audience/influencer discovery; and big-data analyses of interactions on social networks.
Partner closely with content and social teams to monitor performance of channels, create and deliver reports and presentations, and refine reporting methods and workflows.
Execute and optimize team practices and processes, including audience research, message testing, website and email analytics, social analytics, and other activities.
Develop benchmarking frameworks and other metrics to measure the impact of websites, newsletters, video, social media content, and media placements.
Inform the creation of editorial products through analysis of web and social data.
Devise message testing criteria for evaluating and optimizing content creation and delivery.
Advise University Communications leadership and school/department communications leadership on the efficacy of communications programs.
Recommend channels and strategies for delivering key messages to target audiences.
Direct channel audits and audience surveys.
Coordinate with and support the Associate Director for Brand Intelligence on listening and reputation research efforts that investigate audience perceptions of Stanford and issues of significance to higher education.
Optimize spending on paid campaigns to reach target audiences.
Design and/or participate in digital strategy and insights training courses.
Represent the Insights function as a key contact and subject matter expert within University Communications.
May supervise interns or vendor interactions.
Other duties as assigned, including occasional “on-call” work on nights and weekends.
Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.
To be successful in this role, you will bring: Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Deep knowledge of Google Analytics/GA4, social networking tools such as Khoros, Talkwalker, and email analytics tools, such as Marketo or Mailchimp.
Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi-task; excellent organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated experience working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency supporting public opinion polling a strong plus.
Reputational issue tracking and reporting skills strongly preferred.
Working Conditions: Occasional work on evenings and weekends.

Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures.
The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $107,000 - $160,000 per annum/hour.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
