In consultation with the Associate Dean, direct admissions-related programs starting at the applicant phase through the matriculation phase.
Administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures on issues regarding admission.
Identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using expert technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.
Works on multi-faceted issues of diverse where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
Evaluates, determines and implements appropriate protocol, methods, escalation techniques and evaluation criteria for addressing critical admission issues.
Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise and often outside of the university.
Independently administer, implement and interpret university and department admission policies and procedures for Stanford Law School.
There are currently two positions that are open: 1) Director of JD Admissions and 2) Director of Outreach and Recruitment.
To help you determine which position aligns more with your interests and skill set, note that while there is overlap between the responsibilities of each position, the former entails more team and workflow management and the latter has more emphasis on recruitment and yield.
Each year SLS receives more than 4,500 applications from prospective JD applicants, and each year we welcome 180 new JD students to our community.
In this role, the candidate will independently oversee the day-to-day operations of the SLS Admissions office, including determining goals of the office and performance expectations of the staff.
The candidate will analyze the office’s current functions and design new programs and policies related to Law School Admissions, with a particular focus on outreach to underrepresented communities, enhancing yield in recruitment, and implementing a fair admissions process.
The candidate will also collaborate with the Associate Dean and other constituencies on campus to plan and implement the annual Admitted Students Weekend.
These roles report to the Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid.
CORE DUTIES: Develop and implement programs and strategies for intensive recruitment/outreach, bear primary responsibility for a specific area of focus.
This involves the development and deliverance of outreach programs and recruitment strategies in local, national and international communities utilizing staff, current students, and alumni; conduct informational meetings and respond to questions regarding the admissions process and the student experience at Stanford, to enroll the most talented students with a broad range of experiences.
Engage in critical review and analysis of outreach and yield efforts to assess success or areas of improvement.
Develop and manage programs and efforts to cultivate and maintain relationships with university personnel, professional organizations, students and alumni.
Make recommendations for future program improvements.
Interpret and implement university policy related to academic policies; oversee the implementation of policies and practices for SLS Admissions programs related to JD admissions, outreach and recruitment.
Analyze and develop report requirements and data needs.
Conduct quantitative analyses of admission data; write reports for data extraction from national database.
Analyze needs, develop and manage admission programs and processes; serve as the key resource for overall management of the admissions process.
Oversees all aspects of technology as the department’s lead technical liaison with clients and servicers (the Law School Admission Council, Educational Testing Services, PeopleSoft, etc.
) - This is a focus of the Director of JD Admissions role.
Analyze social media trends; write offcial communications between SLS and constituencies.
Provide direct advice to applicants and assist them with making appropriate choices and decisions related to the admissions process.
Serve as relations and information resource to prospective applicants, university personnel, professional organizations, students, parents and alumni, represent the University at activities and events, meetings, committees, and conferences.
Read, evaluate, recommend and advocate for applicants to the Admission Committee to consider for admission based on current university priorities.
Hire, train and supervise part-time seasonal readers and other staff.
Direct the work of Admissions staff; develop appropriate training materials for new and continuing staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to review and analyze complex information.
Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Advanced customer service skills.
Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
Understanding of financial transactions.
Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
Evidence of program planning and management skills.
