edu/ About the role: This is a pivotal moment for Stanford University.
A new school has been established, the first in seventy years, which focuses on climate and sustainability.
This presents an opportunity for the Sustainability, Utilities and Infrastructure (SUI) department within LBRE to build upon successful operational sustainability initiatives and expand on energy, water, and waste reduction savings.
Multiple academic and operational departments are showing interest in how to integrate sustainability into their plans, policies, and practices, and there is a need to develop models to allow for integration across the university.
This position will facilitate carbon trading and support data collection and metrics tracking to meet the requirements for both regulatory and voluntary sustainability reporting.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about working in carbon markets, with experience working in voluntary and compliance markets.
They also have experience with California state climate regulations including AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act as well as general sustainability topics, including energy efficiency, climate change, water conservation and transportation demand management, and have an understanding of the metrics used to measure performance in each of these topic areas.
The specialist must be passionate about carbon trading, sustainability, policy, and willing to learn the tools and processes used to track Stanford’s sustainability compliance and performance.
How You Will Spend Your Time: Regulatory Compliance & Reporting Management- 40% Carbon Trading & Market Oversight – 35% Additional Analytics and Reporting – 15% Program and Training Coordination – 10% Experience You Will Bring to The Organization: Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and relevant experience with data analysis/reporting and sustainability.
Advanced degree in sustainability or other related field a plus.
4-5 years related work experience.
Working knowledge of California’s Global Warming Solutions Act ( AB 32 ) including related laws and regulations.
Demonstrated skill in emissions accounting and familiarity with California state climate regulations.
Interest in and academic background in sustainability; especially common sustainability metrics.
Demonstrated skill in the use of spreadsheets, database programs, and word processing programs, specifically strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Strong communications skills, both written and oral (including proofreading).
Ability to use judgment following policies and procedures and using creativity to solve problems.
Ability to manage a complex and often competing set of priorities in a results-oriented environment.
Strong organizational, time management and project management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects at various stages with emphasis on accuracy and meeting deadlines.
High degree of discretion and judgment; ability to resolve interdependent deadlines with tact and diplomacy.
High degree of energy and initiative, with the ability to work both independently with moderate or little supervision and as part of a team.
Familiarity with higher education facilities management and utilities business processes, including systems for data collection, storage, and analysis.
Familiarity with higher education organizational and operational structures with the ability to objectively think through initiatives’ impact in an institutional setting.
Anticipated Salary Range: $125-130K annually depending on experience.
