The Customer Digital Identity (CDI) organization is enabling the company to better understand who the Walmart customer is.
At the same time, we are ensuring streamlined processes, security, scalability, regulatory compliance and best in class customer experience.
The CDI team will amplify customer centricity by deepening the company's understanding of customers and their preferences.
When we do that, we can serve them when and how they need.
About the role: The Distinguished Data Scientist will lead our development efforts on Causal Inference Processes and Services.
This Causal Inference work will be used to guide near and long-range planning.
This exciting opportunity will join a team of data scientists embedded within the business unit to develop tools that quantify the impact of investment and operational decisions on the Customer, Associate and Shareholder.
This valued contributor will work with other teams within Walmart Membership (W+), Walmart Connect (WMC) and Data Ventures.
Location: San Bruno, CA or Sunnyvale, CA What you'll be doing: Provide overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs; developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans, and practices; analyzing costs and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; determining and supporting resource requirements; evaluating operational processes; measuring outcomes to ensure desired results; identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; promoting a customer environment; and demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning.
Translate business requirements into strategies, initiatives, and projects and aligns them to business strategy and objectives, and drives the execution of deliverables.
Build and articulate the business case and return on investment and delivers work that has demonstrable value.
Challenge business assumptions on topics related to one's domain expertise.
Mentor the team members on new business insights and allied developments.
Proactively engage in the external community to build Walmart's brand and learn more about industry practices.

Problem Formulation: Requires knowledge of Analytics/big data analytics / automation techniques and methods; Business understanding; Precedence and use cases; Business requirements and insights.
To analyze the business problem within one's discipline and questions assumptions to help the business identify the root cause.
Identify and recommend approach to resolve the business problem to create effective technology focused solutions.
Set relevant deliverables based on the established success criteria and define key metrics to measure progress and effectiveness of the solution.
Quantify business impact.
Data Strategy: Requires knowledge of understanding of business value and relevance of data and data enabled insights / decisions; Appropriate application and understanding of data ecosystem including Data Management, Data Quality Standards and Data Governance, Accessibility, Storage and Scalability, etc.
; Understanding of the methods and applications that unlock the monetary value of data assets.
To understand, articulate, interpret, and apply the principles of the defined strategy to unique, moderately complex business problems that may span one or more functions or domains.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
10+ years' experience data science, machine learning, optimization models.
Experience with deep learning library like TensorFlow and/or PyTorch is highly desirable as well as experience with Spark and/or Hadoop.
Hands-on experience with Python, PySpark, SQL and the ability to write reusable and efficient code to automate machine learning pipeline and data processes.
Experience with deep learning library like TensorFlow and/or PyTorch as well as experience with Spark and/or Hadoop.
Strong knowledge of Statistics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and NLP/NLU.
Applied industry experience in NLP/NLU, Forecasting and Anomaly detection solution development.

The annual salary range for this position is $169,000.
00-$338,000.
00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.
