SLAC Job Postings Position overview: SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory’s Facilities & Operations Division is seeking a Rigger Specialist to join our Crane/Rigging and Fleet team.
Members of this team are responsible for operating heavy material handling equipment to lift, move, and position equipment, parts, and materials critical for the lab’s scientific and operational needs.
In addition to the Rigger Specialist duties this position is expected to perform all of the duties described in the Rigger Maintenance specification.
This position reports to the Facilities Service Manager for Crane/Rigging and Fleet unit.
Your specific responsibilities include: Operate all material-handling equipment applying a broad background of specialized rigging skills, knowledge and judgment.
Able to identify unsafe work practices, able to correct and report to Supervisor.
Able to assess equipment used for rigging in terms of functionality, safety, and availability.
Able to train other team members.
Give accurate hand signals to crane operators for precise and safe positioning of suspended loads.
Determine the most appropriate material-handling equipment to be used.
Confer with operations and scientific staff, scientific users, and supervisors, and provide practical ideas, e.
g.
, design of lifting fixtures.
Plan and coordinate the work, and interact effectively with all levels of customers.
Estimate cost of labor and material for a specific job.
Assist supervisors in solving task-related problems.
Advise supervisor of work progress, problems, and other significant information Ensure that safety rules are followed.

To be successful in this position you will bring: Extensive experience in rigging practices and techniques.
Sufficient work experience in the maintenance and operation of a wide variety of rigging equipment.
Ability to work from prints, lift plans sketches, or verbal directions to assemble and locate equipment.
Ability to perform planning (including calculating of load weight and the ability to recommend load strapping methodology), leading, and heavy equipment operation assignments.
Be able to operate all material-handling equipment with a high degree of skill and perform work with minimal supervision.
Must have knowledge of all applicable environmental safety and health rules, procedures and regulations.
Certifications and Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid California Non-commercial Class license.
Must possess the NCCCO (National Commission for Certification of Crane Operators) certification for Mobile Crane Operator.

Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit.
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.
