Description: Job Summary and Mission The purpose of this job is to successfully implement innovation, savings, and packaging improvement projects and to support manual and automated packing manufacturing projects.
This is an end-to-end packaging role in a small and fast-growing organization, which requires engagement in all aspects of commercial execution, product development and manufacturing excellence.
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for all aspects of product packaging design, costing, sourcing, qualification, commercialization, and production support & troubleshooting of new and existing packaging configurations.
The Packaging Engineer should also have a strong understanding of all packaging equipment as well as provide input on the design of future equipment.
Provides functional technical support to Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality and other functional areas.
Summary of Key Responsibilities You will be responsible for all aspects of packaging projects including: Early involvement in projects beginning at the initiation phase and continuing through first production support in cooperation with R&D, supply chain, manufacturing, engineering, quality and marketing.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to design, source and qualify packaging components, equipment, operational processes & procedures.
Lead new product packaging development and continuous packaging and improvement projects for the organization.
Technical scope definition, risk management, trial planning, validation and execution and specification management Research and stay current on top of industry trends, developments, and evolving technologies to identify potential emerging business opportunities, and supply issues.
Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality and Supply Chain to improve company’s OEE with a focus on the packaging department.
Work with packaging department on line efficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
Manage all aspects of packaging component and equipment qualification program.
Support procurement and operations with identifying, and qualifying packaging component, and equipment vendors, as well as third party contractors.
Acts as the facility expert on all packaging equipment.
Is present for all new packaging equipment installation and qualification.
Assists in the training of employees and creation of training documentation on packaging equipment.
Requirements: Skills & Experience Years 3+ Packaging engineering experience in CPG or related industry First-hand experience in new product development projects from ideation to production Knowledge of packing equipment principles and practices as well as hygienic design Project and time management skills to coordinate multiple work streams and timelines for projects.
Ability to lead and manage projects autonomously Basic Qualifications Education: B.
S.
or B.
E.
degree in Engineering or equivalent education with demonstrated working experience Equipment/Software Skills: Computer skills (ERP software preferred).
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Valid CA Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Language Requirements: Bi-Lingual Spanish Preferred.
