The City of Palo Alto Cubberley Community Center is seeking to fill one part-time Arts & Sciences Professional I -H position.
At this time we are looking for a theatre lighting professional, though experience with audio is also highly desired.
Duties include: providing on-site liaison between building users and stage crew; supervising and training volunteer and professional stage hands; providing on-site production and stage management expertise for users with varying levels of theatrical skills and enforcement of facility safety protocol.
Outstanding inter-personal skills, a strong customer service orientation, and experience in technical operations of a facility are all essential skills.
Desired Qualifications: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade, college course work in Fine Arts or technical theatre preferred; or two years of technical experience in a scheduled, multi-use performing arts center.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge with the production standards of a variety of performance types including: classical music, dance, theater, and popular music; knowledge or and experience in standard theatrical construction techniques including: flats, platforms, wagons, soft goods and rigging; ability to evaluate safety of scenery as it moves into the building; experience with large, permanent theatrical lighting systems including computer light boards; experience with sound recording playback and reinforcement.
Candidate must have the ability to teach safe technical operation of all systems to people of a wide variety of backgrounds, including children and adults, and the ability to evaluate the technical needs of building users, as well as the extent of their production background, and adjust working methods accordingly.
Extensive experience in the theatrical lighting, including equipment repair, operation of various computer light boards and instruments, installation, and maintenance is required.
Experience in theatrical sound systems or stage management is also desired.
Should be able to climb vertical ladders, lift and carry heavy objects Possession of a valid California driver's license Working Schedule: Will be required to work a flexible schedule including nights and/or weekends as assigned.
Selection Process: Applications and resume screening will be part of the examination process.
Based on screening, those candidates with the most relevant qualifications will be invited to oral and practical interview.
Depending on the number of applications the above process may be altered.
This is an SEIU Hourly limited-benefits position that is budgeted to not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year.
The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment, and will include weekend and night shifts.
