gov/job/775896600 *Summary* The purpose of the position is to install, repair and adjust defective wiring, fixtures, switches, controls, and equipment; and perform limited installation and repair of complex electrical systems.
This position is within the Electric Shop, Maintenance Section, Engineering Service and is under the direct supervision of the Electrical Shop Supervisor and will be working directly with the Electric Work Leader, Electricians and Electrical Workers.

201) for this occupation.
*Duties* Major duties include: * Troubleshoots and repairs overhead and underground distribution systems, including transformers, circuit interrupters, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, utility poles, and supporting hardware.
* Replaces and installs medium and high voltage overhead and underground electrical circuits and terminations.
* Operates various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical system including isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, transformers, overhead fused cutouts, and voltage regulators; isolates and clears sections of the system for maintenance, installation, and load shedding.
* Inspects overhead and underground distribution systems, tests, and documents findings.
* Responds to emergency calls and takes necessary actions.
* Provides support for in house capital and in-house projects with commissioning, testing, and inspecting finished work.
* Uses personal protective gear such as hot sticks, respiratory protection, and places or erects clearance tags, barricades, warning signs and devices to protect others.
* Locate broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual and test checks.
* Operates a variety of testing, calibration and repair devices, tools and equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, insulation resistance testers, high potential test sets, circuit breaker testers, etc.
* Coordinates work with customers, project managers, other crafts, and inspectors; inspects job sites and reviews detailed plans, drawings, and oral directions to plan work * Prepares detailed estimates including labor, materials, and prepares lists of materials.
* Makes repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing tightening, splicing, soldering and installing defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures.
* Assist with safe and proper operation of systems and equipment, for compliance with the National Electrical Code and VA specifications.

*Position Description Title/PD#:* Electrical Worker/PD02589A *Physical Requirements*: Incumbent may complete repairs and installations from ladder, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places.
This requires electrical workers to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Incumbent frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally, incumbent lift or move with assistance, moderately heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
The work is performed both inside and outside.
Incumbent may be required to make repairs and installation in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet; manholes of 30 feet deep, and occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors.
Incumbents are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises and occasionally work in areas requiring the use of respirators.
