Joby Overview: Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system.
Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most.
Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality.
We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis.
We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.
Overview:
Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate finite element analysis (FEA) engineer to join our Electric Powertrain team.
This role will work primarily on developing FEA and other models to refine and develop the components and subassemblies that make up the Electric Propulsion System (EPU).
The candidate will participate in the product development from concept phase through production and should be a self-starter with strong communication skills and possess a deep understanding of Finite Element Modeling, External and Internal Loads, and verification and validation.
Responsibilities:
Finite Element Model development/refinement, validation and correlation
FEM over a wide scope, including non-linear large deformation, complicated mechanical systems/mechanisms, subassemblies, and material
Structural design using CAD and design iteration through FEA
Design, simulate, and execute structural/material/subassembly testing
Required:
B.
S.
in mechanical engineering, or another relevant discipline
At least 3+ years of working experience in relevant industry
Prior FEA (Abaqus) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) experience
Proficiency in non-linear analysis, including dynamic (crash), large deformation (plasticity and/or fracture), fatigue, and vibration
Practical experience in validating FE models using component/system level, or customized tests
Practical experience in modeling complicated mechanisms and mechanical systems, and model simplifications
Practical experience in contact analysis and material behavior modeling
Experience in directly incorporate design changes and fast iteration using CAE/FEA
Deep understanding of product (structural) design principles and test design fundamentals
Hands on experience in performing structural and material test
Agile and adaptive in design/simulation/test
Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Desired:
Deep knowledge of Abaqus, Abaqus/CAE, explicit solver and its applications
