The Aeromechanical team at Pivotal is seeking an experienced and motivated composite design engineer to join our team.
In this position you will be an integral part of the team and will be mainly focused on designing composite structures and parts.
Responsibilities
Design and development of composite structures, from concept to detailed design, utilizing advanced composite materials and manufacturing processes to achieve lightweight, high-strength, and aerodynamically optimized components
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative composite solutions that meet performance requirements while adhering to weight, cost, and manufacturing constraints
Conduct feasibility studies and perform design analyses to evaluate composite solutions, including stress analysis, laminate optimization, and failure mode analysis, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Utilize CAD and simulation tools to create detailed composite part designs, generate manufacturing drawings, and validate structural integrity
Collaborate with suppliers and external partners to source composite materials, define material specifications, and oversee the manufacturing processes, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely delivery
Support the testing and validation of composite structures, analyzing test data and implementing design modifications as necessary to enhance performance, durability, and safety
Stay up-to-date with advancements in composite materials, manufacturing techniques, and industry trends, and apply this knowledge to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the composite engineering field
Qualifications
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
5 years experience in composite part design, preferably within the aerospace industry
Strong knowledge of composite materials, including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and associated manufacturing techniques, such as autoclave curing, resin infusion, and filament winding
Proficiency in CAD software, such as CATIA, with expertise in composite design tools and plugins
Familiarity with composite structural analysis and simulation tools, such as FEA and laminate optimization software
Demonstrated expertise in composite engineering principles, including laminate theory, failure analysis, and damage tolerance
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically, analyze complex issues, and develop innovative solutions
Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate and present technical information to diverse stakeholders
Bonus Qualifications
Familiarity with aviation regulations and certification processes, such as FAA or EASA, relating to composite structures is preferred
Experience with eVTOL or other electric aircraft
Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field

Salary Range
The salary range for this role is reflected in Pivotal's Pay Structure - Pay Bands (PB) 13-15.
