What to Expect
SHIFTS COVERING 5PM - 1AM
Tesla’s Mobile Robotics team designs, builds, and deploys systems enabling scalable and flexible manufacturing lines for Tesla's growing product and factory portfolio.
Products include multi degree-of-freedom autonomous mobile robots.
The team joins mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative team.
Engineering Technicians within the Mobile Robotics team work side by side with engineers to support the development of our prototype robots and sub-systems.
You’ll be building the first iterations of the machines that make the machines, including highly actuated and electronically/computationally dense robots.
You will have a blend of hands-on builds and responsibilities around analysis, testing, and documentation.
Projects are open ended and often with limited up front guidance.
The successful candidate for this position must have a broad background in mechatronics, industrial, and/or automotive building, maintenance, and testing.
Must be a self-starter and able to figure out how to do things independently.
What You’ll Do
Work with engineers to fabricate, assemble, and integrate mobile robot prototypes, including mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, wire harnesses, etc.
Develop test plans and test systems, including building of assembly jigs and test/validation systems
Collaborate with engineering teams to root cause and resolve mechanical and electrical issues
Provide detailed written & verbal test status updates to key stakeholders
Support engineering teams in instrumentation and data acquisition setup and logging
Maintain a lab, ensuring that it is well-stocked with the tools and materials needed to
make prototype wire harnesses
Supporting bench-top electrical system builds and testing, including obtaining and tracking
Support low volume prototype part builds and testing, including obtaining and tracking
Interface components from other Engineering and Purchasing groups within Tesla
What You’ll Bring
3+ years of experience as an Engineering Technician in robotics, automotive service, manufacturing
Understanding of ultrasonic welding, mechanical assembly design, machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting equipment are preferred but not required

Familiar and comfortable with soldering iron/tweezers, hot air, hand tools and some power tools
Previous experience with automotive wire harnesses: connectors, contact terminals, ground terminals, cables, clips and taping
Able to interpret drawings and 3D CAD, and Able to read electrical schematics and harness drawings and create a harness from scratch.
Experience in CAD (ex.
