What to Expect
In this role the said person would be responsible for end-to-end delivery of complex/precision mechanicals needed for electronics assembly wherein you will be responsible to drive supplier audit, DFM/DFA, Design, set up and commissioning of the manufacturing line while working with CMs.
Internally work cross functionally with Engineering, Reliability and GSM to drive all deliverables for the launch of the product as well as support in sustaining phase.
The said engineer will own the quality of the product from start till end of life.
The Supplier Industrialization Engineer will ensure that all outside sourced products are manufactured according to applicable codes and standards.
Work includes qualifying suppliers, conducting source inspections, comparing specifications, talking to suppliers and company Engineers and Operations personnel, examining suitability and availability of items for delivery, and coordinating the disposition of nonconforming items.
What You’ll Do
Owns supplier quality, manufacturing process development and sustainable technical roadmap development for complex electronics module/assembly from start till end of life
Collaborates with Tesla Design, Quality, and Manufacturing to determine the ideal performance specifications and supplier metrics
Develop, manage, audit, improve and correct supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing and assembly techniques and quality control processes from the advanced development phase to mass production qualification
Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at Suppliers
Lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality
Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla Purchasing, Quality, and Design teams
Perform supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations
Guide suppliers in developing exceptionally robust processes and procedures to promote efficient and seamless production of high-quality products
Provide input on new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction
Actively manage the project’s critical path.
Perform a project risk assessment and recommend key experiments and/or simulation and predictive tools to mitigate areas of high potential risk
Use structured problem-solving methodologies to identify root cause.
Offer conceptual solutions and work closely with the product development team to turn concepts into commercialized products
Prepare and present project milestone documents to the Engineering Milestone Review Committee.
Work with team members to ensure accurate completion of engineering, marketing, and factory documents
Develop communication documents, presentations, and dashboards for communicating the project status, health, etc.
to the leadership team
Drive the creation of technical specifications, design specifications, and system validation plans to meet the project deliverables
Provide leadership in meeting the customer and regulatory requirements with designs that have sustainable differentiation for minimal overall cost
Perform manufacturing process audits at external supplier locations; issue corrective actions to suppliers and following up to ensure their completion; performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
Review, approve, and create improvement plans for product submission packages (PPAP, ISIR, FAI etc.
)
What You’ll Bring
Proven practical experience of running and owning a high-volume manufacturing line as Manufacturing, Process or Quality Engineer
Experience of personally driving DFM/DFA discussions with supplier and engineering teams to improve the design, manufacturability and feasible CTQs
Good working knowledge of sheet metal, injection molding and die casting process
Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Quality, or related field of study preferred)
Strong understanding of statistical process control techniques; process capability assessment (Cpk, Ppk), MSA
Good understanding/knowledge of GD&T and stack-up analysis
Experience with reviewing, approving, and creating improvement plans for product submission packages (PPAP, ISIR, FAI etc.
)
Ability to drive to the true root cause and identify appropriate short and long-term countermeasures
Strong people and communication skills, analytical skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement efforts also essential, along with the ability to coach, and lead individuals and teams
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and methods
Understanding of quality tools and metrics
