What to Expect Tesla’s Mobile Robotics team designs and builds humanoid bi-pedal robots (Tesla Bot) and wheeled vehicles for manufacturing and autonomous logistics.
The team joins mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative team.
We are looking for a Material Buyer/Planning Specialist to manage inventories and ensure that material resources are consistent with production schedules.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to put our incredible robots into production using best practices gained during your career.
The Material Buyer/Planner's responsibilities include determining material specifications, creating and maintaining inventory schedules, coordinating with internal departments, and managing external stakeholder relations.
A successful Material Buyer/Planner should be able to ensure the appropriate supply of cost-efficient and high-quality materials required to maintain steady production and product delivery.
Responsible for Planning, Forecasting, and Purchasing the right volumes of materials, goods and products inbound to the business from its supply chain companies to meet business needs and objectives.
Maintains strong relationships both internally and externally to ensure supply of materials meets requirements.
What You’ll Do Create plans, forecasts and schedules relating to materials required to meet operational requirements Working with engineering leads, analyze and optimize for material function, cost, and timing, and identify opportunities for bulk discounts or cost savings from suppliers Schedule and track the supply and delivery of materials and products, including new supplier onboarding Monitor variances and recommend process improvements Participate in regular planning reviews and prepare data in line with changes Monitor data input to manufacturing and/or PLM software system for accuracy and resolve to update any issues as required Review data integrity for the Bill of Materials (BOM), evaluate cost of materials in relation to actual build Carry out routine inventory control audits and reports and support inventory checks to validate accuracy, and interface with stakeholders to resolve related challenges Create supplier metrics.
Issue and maintain performance metrics in order to optimize service levels Utilize knowledge and research methods to benchmark materials planning activities and to drive best practice results Ensure materials meet specifications, quality standards, and are cost-efficient Coordinate with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, and forecasts What You’ll Bring Degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred 3+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, logistics, or purchasing Experience working with ERP systems planning and purchasing functions Experience working with contract manufacturers and sub-tier suppliers Good understanding of the significance of supply chain and operations Knowledge of manufacturing processes Strong organizational and time management skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally For purposes of communicating directly to offshore suppliers - A candidate that can speak Mandarin and/or Korean is a plus but not a requirement Ability to undertake complex analysis to create information and to interpret data and trends Experience working in new product development environment is preferred
