Tesla’s Prototype Machine Shop is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Machine shop supervisor to join the team and contribute to our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
More specifically, we are looking for a candidate knowledgeable in both manual and CNC machines to manage a shop utilized by Deer Creek Tesla employees ranging from Engineers and Technicians.
This is an opportunity to be an integral part of Tesla’s engineering team, supporting both vehicle and energy organizations.
The Deer Creek Machine Shop provides Engineers and Technicians across the organization with machined components as well as insight into machining and other adjacent manufacturing processes.
Through the Shop’s efforts, we help enhance components and systems design by bringing conceptual ideas to the physical world.
Engineering initiatives we contribute towards range widely from pre-production vehicles, energy systems, artificial intelligence, and other future-shaping products.
As Shop Supervisor, we look to you to help develop and administer a training and qualification process, for Engineers and Technicians that require machining operations as part of their duties pertaining to prototype and custom tasks.

What You’ll Do
Supervisor specific applicant must maintain, oversee the proper setup of the following machinery: Manual Mills, Manual Lathes, Vertical/Horizontal Saws, Pedestal grinders, CNC mill and lathe
Staff and mentor, a small team of 2 machinists to support the energy and vehicle organization needs in Deer Creek
Oversee both training and curriculum to allow qualified employees to gain tiered access to the shop and machine usage based upon certification, which can be revoked due to safety violations
Cut material, build tooling, set fixtures, prove, and run programs, deburr, and finish parts
Machine complex components with tight tolerances in various materials with tight deadlines
Use various inspection and measurement tools to validate your work
Maintain shop equipment as required
Maintain a clean and organized workspace
Participate in continuous improvement projects for the shop and Tesla
Perform all assignments in accordance with EH&S and security policies
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of Machine Shop Experience
3+ years of Engineering prototype experience with either lead or supervisory role
Ability to identify and procure effective tooling and work-holding solutions for all forms of component manufacturing
Proficient with basic shop tools and machines (manual mill, engine lathe, drill press, bandsaw, belt sanders, hand tools etc.
)
Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents, and GD&T
Thorough knowledge in the use of measurement and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, bore gauges, optical comparator, etc
Positive energy and attitude, with a passion for prototyping and machining
Excellent mechanical aptitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to develop and present technical information
Basic experience with common Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
