SENIOR BUYER THE COMPANY: Element Science, Inc.
is a medical device and digital health company focused on developing solutions at the intersection of clinical-grade wearables, machine learning algorithms, and lifesaving therapies in order to address leading causes of death and hospitalization in patients with heart disease, primarily as they transition from the hospital-to-home.
By putting the needs of patients and physicians first, our personalized digital devices, which are designed for function, comfort, and ease-of-use, aim to redefine the paradigm of care for these patients.
Our first product, a wearable patch defibrillator, is initially targeted at treating the more than 500,000 patients in the US with an elevated temporary risk of potentially experiencing a lethal heart rhythm.
Based in San Francisco, our funders include Third Rock Ventures, Google Ventures, Deerfield Healthcare, Qiming Venture Partners USA, Cormorant Asset Management, and Invus Opportunities.
SUMMARY OF ROLE: Element Science is seeking a talented and passionate Senior Buyer.
As a member of the Operations Team, the Senior Buyer will help Identify the organization's purchasing needs, research, select, and purchase quality products and materials.
The Senior Buyer will be responsible for building relationships with suppliers and negotiating with them for the best price, quantities, and delivery timescales.
The ideal Senior Buyer candidate is a seasoned buyer with medical devices, building internal and external partnerships experience.
The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills, a proactive mindset and maintain availability to work on-site five days a week to provide solutions to the team effectively.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports alignment of production supplier requirements and sourcing strategies with those of product development for designated suppliers/commodities to ensure uninterrupted material availability, alignment of risk, and cost goals.
Evaluating MRP/ERP demands, and administrating procurement activities (buying) and production control activities (planning) of required materials.
Requesting bids and negotiating prices/deliveries with outside vendors and internal supervisors and program managers in order to facilitate production build.
Expediting both inbound and in-house past due deliverables.
Review & analyze material shortages and recommend suggestions to prevent production delays.
Raw material purchasing in support of other purchasing activities.
Attend meetings and update reports with relevant information.
Review and analyze purchasing performance, generate reports of past and current metrics.
Evaluate and execute temporary & permanent engineering change orders.
Find, research, and evaluate potential new suppliers for procured parts.
Reviews, interprets, and communicates material demand forecast and manages capacity planning with suppliers.
QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years of purchasing experience in a regulated industry manufacturing environment (medical device preferred).
BA/BS degree preferred but not required.
Self-motivated and the ability to work independently.
A highly organized and able to keep internal staff and sales on track with project execution.
Intellectual curiosity and a passion to grow; always looking to learn more and improve skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including a strong but flexible personality, and proven success in developing relationships with suppliers.
Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills.
Comfortable stepping outside of "comfort zone", with a willingness to step up and own challenging and complex problems.
