Job Description
Saylor Consulting Group (SCG) has an opportunity for a GIS Specialist/GIS Analyst to work with our client, the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain) in the San Francisco Bay Area, likely in San Carlos, CA.
The GIS Specialist/GIS Analyst will prepare, coordinate, and manage GIS project work plans and schedules to include defining requirements, tasks, and resource assignments, ensuring that approved quality levels and deadlines are met.
Daily Duties
Manage GIS-related teams of Agency staff and vendors to ensure that GIS project objectives and timelines are met, and that recent and accurate GIS data is provided.
Conduct feasibility studies, summarize findings, and recommend action.
Direct design stages of system development and ensure the timely implementation of GIS-related projects.
Prepare and deliver periodic reports regarding the enterprise GIS, as well as prepare and administer budget for enterprise GIS.
Develop and maintain standard data formats, data import requirements, and data entry procedures.
Maintain GIS records, program documentation, and end user procedures.
Develop and conduct user training and provide technical guidance and assistance to project teams as needed.
Serve as a liaison with GIS vendors for the proper acquisition, installation, operation, and maintenance of GIS-related resources and with other stake holders or other outside agencies regarding future GIS projects.
Oversee the interfacing and interaction of hardware and GIS software components, as well as develop and configure GIS application and related sub-system application software.
Minimum Qualifications
BS/BA in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or related degree.
Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to a degree in Geography (Cartography), Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with major course work in GIS, or three (3) years of experience developing and managing enterprise geographic information systems and databases for one or more of the following environments, asset management, engineering, planning, and transportation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Possession of specialized training or certification (e.
g.
Environmental Systems Research Institute - ESRI).
Experience in the railroad, utility, or public works industry, and experience with Computer-aided drafting and design (CADD), GIS, relational databases, and computer networks, and ESRI's suite of ArcGIS software products and Autodesk Mapguide Enterprise software.
Knowledge of fixed asset management and work order principles.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Ability to learn organization's software, programs, and processes in a timely manner.
Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and verbal instructions.
