Job Description (Upon Completion Of Training) JOB PURPOSE: The Residential Garage Door Sales/Service Technician is the primary service provider for residential garage door opening systems.
Work assignments are received from the dispatch center or other company personnel.
Larger service and install applications are sometimes handled by a two-person crew.
It is the responsibility of the responding technician to assess and review the necessity of additional personnel.
Any problems, questions or other issues which cannot be resolved by the technician should be referred to a manager for clarification or resolution.
Technicians have specific responsibilities in the areas of recordkeeping for services performed, customer billing, time cards, maintaining service vehicles, fueling and equipment.
Because of the nature of garage door systems in a residential environment, these systems may play a critical role in both business continuity for the customer, as well as revenue generation.
Garage door technicians are the first line of support for most customers and are expected to maintain a neat and clean appearance.
They should treat all customers with decency and respect at all times, regardless of the customer’s mood or disposition.
KEY TASKS: Primary Job Functions: Reviewing and assessing assigned work for accuracy and completeness before departing for the job Ensuring that truck is fueled, serviced and ready for operation prior to beginning shift.
Notifying the appropriate personnel of any required vehicle repairs, when detected.
Regularly following the paperwork and recordkeeping protocol for turning in fuel usage receipts and reports Ensuring truck is restocked with appropriate service material daily Ensuring that all tools and safety equipment is in safe working order Responding to work assignments and tasks as directed by managers and/or dispatch personnel.
Reading and becoming familiar with all products and services to be performed, prior to attempting to install, repair or service.
Assessing the root cause of the problem and coordinating the repair of that problem, including proper contractual sign offs.
Acting as the primary interface to the customer with respect to any questions, directives and/or problem resolution.
Creating customer value through product or service upgrades.
Installing, repairing or servicing the equipment, in a safe, accurate and quality manner, as agreed with customer.
Conduct tests for safe and proper operation of materials provided or serviced Provide customer with explanation, exhibits, demonstration of work performed and products provided, including warranty and product information.
Proper cleanup of worksite.
Application of company stickers as instructed by company.
Collection of payments due company.
Accurately recording all job information, such as brand, model, sizes, extent of work performed and reporting such to proper personnel at completion of job.
Accurately documenting date and time spent on the job.
Accurate reporting and coordinating any follow up actions needed to be taken if job not finished or customer wishes additional products and/or services.
Secondary Job Functions: Providing a variety of secondary support tasks as required company management.
Pickup and delivery of products and supplies Depositing of company checks into financial institution Warehouse duties as needed, including unloading of deliveries Performing sales and office duties, as might be needed.
Participating in all company training and being proactive in striving for job, knowledge and performance improvement.
FREQUENTLY USED TOOLS AND RESOURCES: Hand power tools, such as impact wrenches, drills, reciprocating saws, circular saws and roto-hammers Hand tools such as utility knives, hammers, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, sockets, tin snips, winding bars, punches, etc.
Fasteners such as nails, nuts and bolts, pins, screws, rivets, staples, etc.
Associated materials, such as wood, vinyl and metal products, wires Lubricants and batteries Ladders, stools, stands, portable platforms Telephones and other communication devices Navigation devices Voice and electronic transmission devices, such as computers and computer related products DESIRED CORED COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS: Must have valid driver’s license and be acceptable to insurance as covered driver Must maintain a good driving record Must be able to communicate effectively, as determined by the company Must be able to read and write legibly and accurately.
Should have good mathematical aptitude and understanding, including basic arithmetic skills Should have good mechanical aptitude and/or demonstrated ability to understand and operate common power tools.
Should have the physical ability and eyesight to effectively perform job to the satisfaction of the employer.
Should be able to lift and carry up to 50-100 pounds, sometimes up to 90 feet.
Should have the ability to maintain balance while working from ladders or platforms or while working on overhead operations.
Must have neat appearance Should have a positive attitude and demeanor.
Must be able to understand and take direction from co-workers and superiors PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COMPENSATION AMOUNT DURING THE TRAINING PERIOD (while we teach you how to everything explained above) WILL BE $25 PER HOUR.
PAY INCREASE ONCE TRAINING PERIOD IS COMPLETED AND YOU ARE IN THE FIELD ON YOUR OWN.
ADDITIONALLY, TRAINING WILL TAKE PLACE WITH OUR SACRAMENTO MANAGER IN THE GREATER SACRAMENTO AREA.
WE WILL PROVIDE A HOTEL ROOM FOR THE DURATION OF TRAINING OR YOU CAN TRAVEL BACK AND FORTH IF DESIRED.
