Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor the Highway Maintenance Leadworker assists the Supervisor in oversight of and participates in the work of a Road maintenance crew, maintains the existing highway inventory which includes drainage, delineation, PCC pavements, asphalt pavements, emergency response, accident cleanup, traffic control in a safe and efficient manner.
The incumbant will be required to operate vehicles requiring a valid Class B drivers license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, a Class A driver license is desirable.
To help the Department with scheduling, the incumbent may be asked to work alternate work shifts such as but not limited to 9/80, 4/10, work nights or weekends.
To be considered for this vacancy you must have transfer eligibility based on present or past state civil service eligibility or taken and passed an exam for this classification.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker Exam.

Working Conditions These positions exist in San Mateo County.
Foster City, San Mateo, Redwood city, Daly City, Millbrae, Daly City, Halfmoon Bay, and Woodside The incumbent can be expected to work outdoors most of the time in all types of weather.
The work can be physically demanding and require stamina, agility, and strength.
The incumbent is subject to sunburn, poison oak, snake, insect bites, loud noise, dust, and chemicals.
The job has an added hazard due to most of the work being in close proximity to vehicular traffic.
May be at risk of injury working with or around equipment.
May have to work in wetlands or woodlands.
Will be required to travel and stay overnight to attend mandatory classes.
May be required to work rotating shifts including nights and weekend; shift may change due to emergencies such as floods, earthquakes, and storms.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
