Communications Specialist for Maternal Health The Communications Specialist for Maternal Health will support communications for the California Maternal Health Innovation (MHI) Program, a statewide effort funded by the U.
S.
Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA).
The purpose of the State MHI Program is to reduce maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity by supporting state-led demonstrations focused on improving maternal health and addressing maternal health disparities through quality services, a skilled workforce, enhanced data quality and capacity, and innovative programming.
The Communications Specialist will serve on the MHI program team, in addition to working collaboratively with the CMQCC communictions team.
Together with the CMQCC Communications Manager, this position will develop and implement an MHI communcations stategy, in coordination with state and federal partners, funders, the MHI Steering Committee and Task Force, and a diverse communications subcommittee.
In this role the Communications Specialist will implement the communication strategy in support of the Program strategic plan and assist with achieving all Program objectives including: Translation of maternal mortality review reports into action.
Conduct baseline assessment of state maternal care and coverage.
Develop maternal health strategic plan to ensure innovative approaches to assessing at-risk pregnant individuals for poor outcomes and connect to medical, public health and social service evidence-based resources.
Coordinate and promote existing maternal health strategies informed by community voices.
Fund community partners to help scale up assessments and risk interventions.
In addition to focusing on the MHI Program objectives, the position will identify synergies between the Program and CMQCC’s broader mission to elevate awareness and understanding of their work among key audiences regionally and nationally.
S/he will write original content, develop and edit communications materials, ensure that the priorities, messaging and brand of the Programs, CMQCC and Stanford are advanced.
S/he will participate in the development and/or contribute to a community and patient outreach strategy related to program development, partnership, and funding of community organizations; identify and implement communication tools and resources needed to support program projects and review trends to make communication program improvement recommendations.
Duties include: Develop, execute and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts.
Participate in regular meetings of Program staff to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications including email marketing and other digital communications, media relations, and partner outreach Assist in preparing content for internal or external newsletters.
Understand email and digital content distribution.
Identify individuals/groups to attend and/or speak at public meetings or other events.
Assist with coordination of media, community or government relations, and ensure logistics and preparations are handled.
The MHI Program is a project of the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC) housed at the Stanford University School of Medicine, specifically The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine, which aims to provide optimum state-of-the-art care for critically ill and recovering neonates and infants.
The Division is dedicated to the School of Medicine’s mission of advancing and exploring innovative and novel biomedical, translational, and clinical research and education through the nurturing stimulation of interactions among basic and clinical scientists, clinicians, and educators throughout the School of Medicine and University, as well as with the private and public sectors.
Through integrated research, education, patient, and community outreach programs, the Division is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic medicine and patient care.
A component of the Division are the Perinatal Programs: Mid-Coastal California Perinatal Outreach Program (MCCPOP), CMQCC, and California Perinatal Quality Care Collaboratives (CPQCC).
The Perinatal Programs have as their mission to transform maternity and neonatal care in California by defining, disseminating and implementing clinical best practices and quality improvement principles and techniques, and by providing quality improvement tools and strategies for clinicians to improve the outcomes for pregnant women and newborns.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position.
The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $83,000 to $104,000.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3 years professional relevant experience, preferably on a communications team at a government or nonprofit organization.
Excellent writing and presentation skills, ability to edit scientific text and education materials to ensure clear and concise communication of concepts Knowledge of digital communication tools Experience with website information architecture and design concepts Project management experience and skills Proven ability to work collaboratively with leadership and staff on multiple, competing projects EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED): · Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading.
· Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
· Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people.
· Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: None PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: · Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
· Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
· Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
